2010 Coordination Unit

The Department of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs consist of a 2010 Coordination Unit that is responsible for spearheading the roll out plan of projects and monitoring their impact in changing the socio – economic conditions of the Province. 

The 2010 Coordination Unit, working in conjunction with other departments and public entities, seeks to ensure that the Eastern Cape Province realizes its state of readiness for hosting the FIFA 2010 World Cup.  This will be achieved through distribution of all economic and tourism benefits emanating from this spectacular event across the Province. The 2010 Coordination Unit also forms part of the Provincial Coordination Committee (PCC), a structure brought about by a resolution taken by EXCO in June 2004 to ensure that all 2010 Units in various departments in the Province have a clear reporting structure to assist the Province in preparation of its readiness of this mega sporting event.

2010 Projects Coordination Unit objectives

Progress has been made in designing a series of campaigns that will be implemented over a three year period as legacy initiatives beyond 2010.

·         2010 Public awareness.

·         Domestic and international destination marketing and branding.

·         Skills development.

·         Tourism support.

·         Economic development

·         Environmental management, and

·         Safety and security.

The Department’s Public Entities will be led, monitored and evaluated by the 2010 Projects Coordination Unit in assisting them to realize the above mentioned objectives as implementing agents of all 2010 driven, and focused, projects.
