The Department sponsors Miss Eastern Cape beauty with a purpose initiative
As this Department joins the people of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, Africa and the world in congratulating Zozibini Tunzi for winning the Miss Universe 2019 crown, DEDEAT is proud to sponsor and be associated with ‘an academy’ for future Miss Universes, Miss Eastern Cape beauty with a purpose.
The Department sponsored the 6th lap of the Miss Eastern Cape beauty with a purpose initiative held in East London, at The Venue, Hemingway’s on 8 December 2019.
This is not just a beauty pageant but an initiative aimed to empower and develop young girls in the Eastern Cape Province.
The programme has over the last five years sent to University three (3) Miss Eastern Cape winners.
One of these is Zimi Mabunzi who before participating in the initiative dropped out of University due to financial constraints.
Today she is studying Bcom Law studies with Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Her second princess is studying Medicine at the Walter Sisulu University. These two bursary awards are sponsored by Billion Group
Also, through this initiative young people are trained to be ambassadors in their respective communities using the mentor-mentee approach, meaning empowering groups that must go back and empower their peers creating a cadetship that will provoke the inner ability and potential vested in these young people.
They are also partnering with the United Nations program called Girl Up and through this, the 2019 winner is going to represent the Eastern Cape young girls in Washington DC.
