It is exciting that the Eastern Cape Upper Blinkwater Minigrid has been featured as an African Power & Energy Elites 2023 ESI Africa project.
Many partners have contributed to its success.
The Department and its partners started working on the minigrid in 2015 and now the 57 households of the Mthocwa community are connected to reliable, high-quality electricity, powered by solar PV, wind energy and battery energy storage.
The minigrid was handed over to the Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality in November 2022 for ownership and operations.
