Nomalwande Mbananga is new compliance, enforcement director

DEDEAT welcomes Mrs Nomalwande Mbananga officially assumes the role of Director of Compliance and Enforcement at the Head Office on 1 March 2024.

Mrs Mbananga’s remarkable journey in the environmental management sector began 16 years ago at DEDEAT, where she played a key role as one of the pioneers during the establishment of the Environmental Enforcement and Services (EES) Unit.

After her tenure at DEDEAT, Mrs Mbananga advanced to local government, where she served at the district level, overseeing the development, implementation, and compliance of environmental sector plans. Demonstrating versatility, she excelled in stakeholder management, covering areas from climate change to the overall environmental management scope. Later, she joined the national government, managing forestry regulations in the Eastern Cape. Her responsibilities included licensing, stakeholder engagement, compliance, and enforcement, with a notable role in biodiversity management. Mrs Mbananga also played a key role in implementing the forestry sector master plan, fostering partnerships for sector transformation.

The HOD warmly welcomes Mrs Mbananga back to DEDEAT. Expressing confidence in her ability to quickly adapt and contribute effectively, the HOD highlighted her varied work history and prior experience within the department as valuable assets.

The HOD called on staff to support Mrs Mbananga and other recent additions to the department, emphasising the importance of collaboration in alignment with DEDEAT’s core values.
