In honour of Nelson Mandela Day, the DEDEAT’s Chris Hani district dedicated its time to reflect on the former President Nelson Mandela’s values and principles, making an impact on the community. The region gave support to the Rotwel Multipurpose Centre in Mlungisi Location, Komani. Together with partners, DEDEAT donated their time to paint the facility, plant vegetables, and cook for the soup kitchen. Additionally, the partners donated painting material, seedlings, and cleaning supplies. The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Environment (DFFE) also contributed by donating trees. Other partnering institutions are the Departments of Public Works and Human Settlements; Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, and Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality.
This centre hosts various support groups, including an NPO run by elderly women specialising in sewing and crochet, a men’s forum, a soup kitchen for children, the Chris Hani disability forum, a cooperative that trains young musicians, and Isibindi NPO, which assists gender-based violence victims.
The Regional Director extended gratitude to her team for their exceptional efforts including reaching out to the community and other departments, this embodying inclusiveness, positivity, and the spirit of making a difference.
