DEDEAT collaborates with CHDM, various stakeholders for career exhibition

To empower and guide the youth in Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) towards making informed career choices, the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) spearheaded a two-day career exhibition on 21-22 July 21 2023.

Themed “Get to know your career path,” the event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders including government agencies, private sector representatives and institutions of higher learning.

The first session of the exhibition was held at Nyathi Senior Secondary School where students and young adults gathered to interact with experts and professionals from various fields. They had the opportunity to learn about different career paths, job prospects and the skills required for success in each sector. The engagement aimed to foster a deeper understanding of the opportunities available and assist them in making well-informed decisions about their futures.

On the second day, the event shifted to Gali Thembani Service Centre expanding its reach to a broader audience. The move allowed even more young people to gain exposure to a wide array of career options, empowering them with the knowledge that could shape their life choices positively.

The collaboration between DEDEAT and the numerous stakeholders played a crucial role in the event’s success. Among the stakeholders present were representatives from the CHDM; Enoch Mgijima Municipality; the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform; the Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Environment and the Department of Education. Additionally, key organisations such as SANParks, Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency, Eastern Cape Development Corporation, South African Police Service, Department of Higher Education and Training; Transnet, Eskom and prominent headmasters from local schools and institutions of higher learning participated actively.

DEDEAT will host the Micro, Medium and Small Enterprises (MSME) summit in CHDM next week from 25 to 27 July 2023.
